No cause yet for Kauai brushfire

Fire inspectors are investigating the cause of a brushfire that scorched about 25 acres and threatened homes in Anahola.

The fire off of Kukuihale Road started at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived and found the fast-moving blaze with flames up to 20 feet high between Kukuihale Road and east of Pilipole Road.

Strong winds that blew the fire dangerously close to surrounding homes, according to a news release from the Kauai Fire Department. Most residents evacuated their homes before police arrived to inform them to prepare for evacuation.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 11 p.m. and extinguished at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

No homes were damaged by the fire. The blaze caused damage to a small wooden storage shed in the area.
