Honolulu airport viaduct repairs to slow H-1 weekend traffic
The state Department of Transportation is advising Oahu motorists to plan for extra travel time along the H-1 freeway as ongoing repairs to the airport viaduct deck continue through the weekend.
Two right lanes in the westbound direction will be closed from the Keehi Interchange to the Hickam Air Force Base/Naval Base offramp (Exit 15B) between 11:59 p.m. on Friday continuously through 12:01 a.m. on Monday.
Freeway ramps to and from the Honolulu International Airport will remain open. However, a detour route will be in effect to accommodate the construction.
The offramp to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam will be closed. Westbound motorists heading to the base are advised to take the Arizona Memorial/Stadium offramp (Exit 15B) to Kamehameha Highway and make a U-turn at Radford Drive.
Two right westbound lanes on Nimitz Highway, between Elliot Street and Valkenburgh Street, will also be closed as a safety precaution.
The speed limit will be reduced to 15 mph in the work zone.
