Firefighters to return to battle Mililani brush fire

Fire crews were being shuttled by helicopter from a staging area at Kuaoa and Paalii streets.

Fire officials estimated Wednesday night that a brush fire that began Tuesday night has burned about 150 acres, and firefighters are scheduled to return Thursday morning.

About 20 Honolulu Fire Department firefighters resumed Wednesday morning fighting a brush fire on a ridge above Mililani Mauka that was reported Tuesday night.

Fire personnel also fought the fire from the air, using a helicopter to make water drops.

Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry personnel spent Wednesday cutting a landing zone for the helicopter’s use Thursday, fire Capt. James Todd said.

The brush fire was first reported at 10:57 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters were recalled at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire crews were being shuttled by helicopter from a staging area at Kuaoa and Paalii streets.
