Molokai driver charged in attempted murder case

Maui County police charged a 38-year-old Kaamola man with attempted murder and other offenses after he allegedly crashed a car into a vehicle driven by his ex-girlfriend on Jan. 7.

According to police, the victim, a 35-year-old woman, was traveling west on Kamehameha V Highway when she saw suspect Pakluke Lau in another vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed.

The vehicles collided, resulting in the victim sustaining minor injuries.

Lau sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Oahu for treatment.

Lau was arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree criminal property damage, first-degree terroristic threatening, reckless driving and two counts of violating an order of protection. His aggregate bail was set at $115,000.
