Prosecutors charged an 18-year-old Kalihi man who, along with others, allegedly tried to rob a 21-year-old man in Kalihi.

John Downer was charged Tuesday with second-degree robbery for the Jan. 19 crime.

Police said the man was the first to strike the 21-year-old at 5:37 p.m. Jan. 19, causing him to fall to the ground.

After the initial hit, multiple suspects began hitting him and demanding his property, police said. The victim was able to fight them off and the suspects fled.

Police identified, located and arrested Downer on Monday.
