Rainbow Wahine clinch Big West basketball title

LONG BEACH, Calif. >> Shawna-Lei Kuehu scored 16 points off the bench and Destiny King added nine as the Rainbow Wahine basketball team clinched the Big West title with a 47-46 win at Long Beach State on Thursday. 

Hawaii (20-7, 12-2) outrebounded Long Beach State 44 to 27 and extended its win streak to 12. It’s Hawaii’s first conference title since 1993-94.

Hallie Meneses led Long Beach State (20-7, 7-6) with 19 points and Alex Sanchez added 13. The 49ers got the ball back with 2.4 seconds remaining but couldn’t get a shot off. 

The Rainbow Wahine finish the regular season March 5 at UC Santa Barbara and hosts Cal State Fullerton on March 7 for senior night.
