Ga. death row inmate who killed man over stolen checks set to die

ATLANTA » A Georgia death-row inmate convicted of killing a man who demanded he pay him back for stealing and cashing some of his personal checks is scheduled to be executed in early March.
The Georgia Attorney General’s office said in a statement Friday that 46-year-old Brian Keith Terrell will be put to death on March 10. Prosecutors say Terrell stole 10 checks belonging to 70-year-old John Watson of Covington in June 1992 and signed his own name on some of them. Watson was a close friend of Terrell’s mother.
Watson agreed not to press charges if most of the stolen money was returned. But instead of returning the money, prosecutors say Terrell shot Watson multiple times and then beat him to death.
Prosecutors say Terrell broke bones in Watson’s jaw, nose, cheek, forehead, and eye socket.
