UH beats Baylor in first game of Houston baseball tournament
Four pitchers combined to hold Baylor to two hits and Alex Sawelson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Hawaii to a 2-1 victory over the Bears in the first game of the Houston College Classic on Friday at Minute Maid Park.
L.J. Brewster (3-1) struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings to earn the victory for the Rainbow Warriors (6-8), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Sawelson drove in both UH runs with two outs.
Baylor had runners on first and second with nobody out in the eighth inning when reliever Matt Valencia came in and struck out three straight batters.
Cody Culp worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save.
Alan Baldwin singled, walked and scored two runs and Matt LoCoco had two of UH’s seven hits.
