Washington state couple ID’d as drowning victims
A husband and wife who died while snorkeling March 13 at Hanauma Bay have been identified as Robert Jones, 60, and Jane Jones, 55, of Olympia, Wash.
A hiker spotted the couple in distress around 10:30 a.m. and called for help.
Lifeguards found the couple more than 200 yards beyond a cove known as Witches Brew. The couple was brought back to shore on a rescue watercraft but attempts at resuscitation were not successful.
Jane Jones, a social worker, was the founder of a free clinic in Washington and had spent the last six years as a senior clinic consultant with Empowering Community Healthcare Outreach, an organization that helps to develop low-cost, sustainable clinics in economically disadvantaged communities.
Jones’ ECHO biography said she enjoyed "finding time in the sun (travel out of Washington!)."
