Club to celebrate 72nd anniversary of 442nd’s formation
Gov. David Ige and University of Hawaii President David Lassner will be the guest speakers at the 442nd Veterans Club banquet Sunday at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Wai-kiki for the 72nd anniversary of the formation of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
A French delegation from Bruyeres also will attend the banquet. The French city, which the Japa-nese-American soldiers librated during World War II, is part of the sister-city relationship established in 1960 by Mayor Neal Blaisdell. The city hopes to erect an educational center honoring the soldiers in Bruyeres.
Ige’s father served in the 100th Battalion, which became part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, which is one of the Army’s most decorated units.
Veterans and their families may make reservations for the luncheon by calling 949-7997.
