Hiker, 21, who died on Pali Notches trail identified

    The companions of a hiker who died Sunday afternoon sat while being accompanied by Navy liaisons at Pali Lookout in Nuu­anu. The 21-year-old man fell about 50 feet while hiking on the Pali Notches trail.

A hiker who fell to his death off the Pali Notches trail on Sunday has been identified as Navy sailor Johnathan McNeeley, 21.

McNeeley, a native of Lake Wales, Fla., was assigned to the USS John Paul Jones, based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

He fell about 50 feet on Sunday at about 3:45 p.m.

The Navy said in a press release McNeeley died from injuries he sustained in the fall.
