Firefighters search for gunpowder at Waianae home
The Honolulu Fire Department’s Hazardous Material unit Sunday afternoon investigated a report of gunpowder stored at a home on Waianae Valley Road
Firefighters initially received a call at noon from the new owner of the house who found arcing wires in a storage area, said Fire
Capt. David Jenkins.
When firefighters arrived at the home on Waianae Valley Road, neighbors were concerned that the previous owner had stored gun powder at the home for ammunition, Jenkins said.
The fire department’s HazMat team arrived at 12:40 p.m. to search the home.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., Jenkins said, the hazmat team sampled “the ground, air quality and the water that got washed down when the owners were washing the storage area. At this time they haven’t found anything.”
