A spokeswoman for Prince George’s Hospital Center says a guard shot at the U.S. Census Bureau has died.

Erika Murray said early Friday that Lawrence Buckner died at the hospital in Cheverly, Maryland, at 7:19 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say an armed man kidnapped a woman, shot the guard at the Census Bureau campus and led police on a car chase through Maryland and Washington, D.C., before he was captured.

Police say the guard saw two people arguing in a car and was shot when he approached the vehicle.

Authorities cornered him in an exchange of gunfire that left the suspect and a police officer wounded.

The FBI says the shooting was not terrorism related. Washington police say the kidnapping was domestic-related.
