Air Force investigators are trying to identify a substance that prompted a hazardous material response after it was found in home in the Hickam side of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Thursday afternoon.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations was told that an unknown hazardous material was at a home on the older section of the Air Force Base early Thursday afternoon.

The area was closed for about three hours while authorities searched the home and the surrounding area.

Residents were asked to avoid the area and students at Hickam Elementary School were kept on campus for about an hour during the investigation.

The Federal Fire Department HAZMAT team determined there was no risk to the surrounding community.
