Justin Toerner scored three runs and Nolan Bumstead went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as CSUN took advantage of problems at third base for Hawaii in a 7-3 victory Sunday to salvage a game in the series at Les Murakami Stadium.

Rayne Raven (5-3) allowed three unearned runs over seven innings and Yusuke Akitoshi singled and drove in two runs for the Matadors (23-15, 3-9 Big West), who snapped a three-game losing streak against Hawaii.

Eric Ramirez gave the Rainbow Warriors (14-24, 5-7) a 3-2 lead in the third inning with an RBI single that Hawaii maintained until the sixth inning.

Starter Jarrett Arakawa (2-2) allowed four runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings and reliever Cody Culp and Matt Valencia combined to give up five hits and three runs in 1 2/3 innings as CSUN took a 7-3 lead.

Hawaii third baseman JJ Kitaoka was replaced defensively in the third inning after a two-out error in the first inning led to a CSUN run. William Colantono’s two-out single in the second inning got past Kitaoka at third, allowing Dylan Alexander to score to put the Matadors up 2-0.

Freshman Jonathan Weeks replaced Kitaoka and booted a hard-hit ball by Toerner in the sixth inning for UH’s second official error. Toerner eventually scored the go-ahead run on a two-out hit by Alexander.

UH finished with 13 hits in the entire series.

Up next for Hawaii is a three-game series with No. 10 UC Santa Barbara (27-9, 6-3), which won two of three against Cal Poly this weekend.
