Zoo parking back to $1 an hour Wednesday
Motorists will again need to pay to park at the Honolulu Zoo parking lot starting Wednesday, city officials say.
Republic Parking Northwest Inc. will assume management of the 212-stall lot then. A manual collection and monitoring system will be placed at the entrances and exits of the lot until new parking pay stations can be installed, city officials said Tuesday.
The cost of parking will go back to $1 an hour, with a four-hour maximum, beginning Wednesday.
Moana Parking Management LLC, the former concessionaire, filed a Chapter 7 voluntary petition with the Delaware Bankruptcy Court on April 17. A few days later, someone damaged the pay machines rendering them inoperable. Motorists have been parking there for free ever since.
The stalls are supposed to be for zoo and Kapiolani Park users only, city officials said.
