A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed early Friday morning in Kapolei, while crossing Kamaaha Avenue in a marked crosswalk.

Police said a 2004 Ford truck, heading north on Kamaaha Avenue hit Guillerma Balanza at 5 a.m. near the intersection of Kekuilani Loop.

The victim suffered massive head and internal injuries and died at the scene, police said.

Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Police are investigating whether the driver was speeding.

The early-morning accident occurred under overcast skies.

The death marks Oahu’s 18th traffic fatality this year compared with 23 a year ago. It is the ninth pedestrian fatality on Oahu in 2015, compared with tally of 11 at this time last year.
