Crash in Kapaa leaves three injured

Three people suffered injuries in a two-car crash in Kapaa on Kauai Tuesday.

At about 8 p.m., police say a Chevy sedan was turning left from a southbound lane of Kuhio Highway onto Aleka Loop fronting Longs Drugs. The car struck a Toyota pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old Kapaa boy that was heading north on the outer lane.

Police said the truck hit a stop sign and fence before coming to a stop in a vacant lot along the northbound shoulder of the highway.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Wilcox Hospital. Police said the female driver and passenger of the sedan were treated at the scene. They were from Kapaa as well, and their ages are not known at this time. Paramedics transported the two to Wilcox Hospital where they were evaluated and released.

Police diverted northbound traffic onto Aleka Loop until about 8:45 p.m.
