Man drives wrong way on 3 highways for 25 miles

BERKELEY, Calif. » A man drove about 25 miles in the wrong direction on San Francisco Bay Area freeways and city streets and then crashed into another car.

KNTV in San Jose reports Monday that the man drove a stolen Honda from Concord to Berkeley late Sunday night on three highways and several streets.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter followed the car for part of the way.

In Berkeley, the Honda driver crashed into GMC Envoy. The driver was injured and the SUV flipped on its roof.

CHP spokesman Sean Wilkenfeld said that the Honda driver ran away and remains at large.

During the chase, the CHP received a 911 call from an unidentified man who requested that the CHP "stop following him" in their helicopter. Wilkenfeld said the CHP needs to verify the authenticity of the call.
