High surf advisory issued for south shores

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for all islands from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. For Oahu’s south shore, the high surf advisory starts at 11 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Monday.

A powerful low pressure system in the South Pacific generated a large south swell that is expected to produce surf of surf 6 to 10 feet along affected shores. The swell is expected to build through Sunday, peak on Monday, then slowly diminish.

The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents which can make swimming difficult and dangerous.
