5 men cited, charged after cockfighting raid in Kahaluu

Five men are scheduled to appear in Kaneohe District Court later this month after being caught in a raid on a cockfight last weekend in Kahaluu.

The men — ages 21, 26, 39, 36, and 53 — were cited for possessing prohibited gaffs or slashers when they were arrested just after 11 a.m. Saturday on a Waihee Road property. All five are free after posting bail

A gaff is a knife tied to the leg of a rooster that’s used to injure its opponent in a cockfight.

Two of the men, ages 39 and 53, face an additional charge of animal cruetly — a misdemeanor that carries a maximum jail term of one year.

Violation of the gaff prohibition is a petty misdemeanor and carries a maximum jail term of 30 days.
