Three-vehicle crash on Hawaii Belt Road leaves 5 injured

Hawaii island police closed Hawaii Belt Road on Friday morning following a three-vehicle collision that left five people injured.

The collision — which involved an automobile, a pick-up truck and a semi-truck — occurred about 9:45 near the 22 mile marker of Hawaii Belt Road.

According to a Hawaii County Fire Department report, one person was trapped in a vehicle and had to be extracted.

One lane of Hawaii Belt Road was reopened about 1 p.m. The highway was fully cleared just before 4 p.m.
