Investor Warren Buffett has given more than $2.8 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock to five charities as part of his plan to gradually give away his fortune.

Buffett, who is Berkshire’s chairman and CEO, said in a news release Monday that he made his annual gifts last week. One of the main beneficiaries was the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

He has 19 years of experience in engineering, including having served as a senior electro-optical systems engineer at BAE Systems for 15 years as well as provided electrical engineering services locally for large-scale infrastructure and power projects.

Honolulu HomeLoans has announced Susan "Suzie" Bass as a senior loan officer. She will specialize in residential mortgage loan refinancing and origination. Bass has nearly 15 years’ experience in the mortgage industry, including having served as a senior loan officer at Pacific Home Lending as well as a branch manager and loan officer at DHI Mortgage.
