Unattended stove sparks Hawaii island house fire
Hawaii County fire officials say an unattended stove was the cause of a $60,000 house fire in Pahoa on Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the first alarm at 1:59 p.m. and found the 1,360-square foot home in the Ainaloa subdivision between 30 percent and 50 percent engulfed in fire, the Fire Department said in a news release.
Sixteen firefighters responded to the blaze at 16-2034 Tangerine Drive., but no one was home at the time
The first company arrived at 2:01 p.m. The fire was under control at 2:30 p.m. and extinguished at 2:45 p.m.
Red Cross is assisting the residents who returned home after the fire was put out.
