Michelle Wie continued her climb at the U.S. Women’s Open with a second straight round of 2 under par 68 on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa.
Wie, the defending U.S. Open champion, began the day tied for 12th and moved into a tie for fifth at 2 under par for the tournament through three rounds at Lancaster Country Club.
Wie enters Sunday’s final round six shots behind leader Amy Yang, who moved to 8 under with a round of 1-under 69 on Saturday. Stacy Lewis is second at 5 under followed by In Gee Chun at 4 under and Shiho Oyama at 3 under.
Chella Choi, who fired a 64 on Saturday, Mi Hyang Lee and Inbee Park are tied with Wie at 2 under.
Wie and Choi will be paired together for Sunday’s round. They’re scheduled to tee off at 7:43 a.m. Hawaii time.
Wie emerged from a roller-coaster front nine on Saturday at even par 35, matching three birdies with three bogeys.
After back-to-back bogeys going into the turn, she birdied three of the next four holes and moved into a tie for third at 3 under with a birdie on the par-5 13th.
She bogeyed the 343-yard 16th hole to slip back into a tie for fifth and finished with pars on No. 17 and 18.
Punahou senior-to-be Mariel Galdiano rose into a tie for 42nd with her round of 1-over 71. She will enter the final round at 5-over 215 for the tournament.
Galdiano carded three birdies and four bogeys in her first weekend appearance at the U.S. Open. She will be paired with Ha Na Jang at 4:14 a.m. Hawaii time on Sunday.
