A 50-year-old man was in critical condition Tuesday after being found face-down in the lagoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.

Waikiki area beachgoers found the man, a visitor, at about 11:45 a.m., EMS spokesperson Shayne Enright said. He was brought to shore, where CPR was initiated by beachgoers. Lifeguards arrived at the scene by rescue watercraft and took over CPR until paramedics arrived and continued advanced life-saving treatment before transporting the man to an emergency room.

The Honolulu Fire Department also responded to the scene.
