An 87-year-old female pedestrian from Haiku, Maui, was critically injured Saturday afternoon when she was struck by a car driven by an 11-year-old boy.

According to police, the boy was backing out of a parking stall at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center in Kahului when the driver’s side door struck the woman, knocking her to the ground. The car then collided with another vehicle that was stopped behind it.

The woman was transported to Maui Memorial Medical center in critical condition.

Neither the boy nor the 74-year-old driver of the second vehicle was injured.

The Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the incident.
