Visitor apparently drowns off a Waikoloa resort

A 44-year-old Chinese visitor apparently drowned in the ocean off the Hilton Waikoloa Village on Wednesday afternoon.

Hawaii County police said South Kohala officers responded to a 12:36 p.m. report of a possible drowning at the 69-400 block Waikoloa Beach Drive.

When police arrived, the man was unconscious on the shore and being treated by medics using cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Medics could not revive him, and he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He was identified as Cong Guo of Shanghai.

An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
