Honolulu Fire Department personnel rescued 12 people from an overturned boat in waters off Waimea on Monday evening.

According to HFD spokesman Capt. David Jenkins, the 25-foot vessel became disabled and capsized about a half-mile from shore.

Two people from the group swam safely to shore. The remaining 12 people stayed with the vessel until help arrived.

The 12 were transported to the Haleiwa Boat Harbor aboard an HFD rescue boat.

No injuries were reported.

Twenty HFD personnel from six companies responded to the 7:33 p.m. emergency call. The U.S. Coast Guard also assisted with the rescue.
