Hurricane Guillermo prompts high surf advisory for islands
Hurricane Guillermo is sending some big waves to the islands.
A high surf advisory is in effect for the east-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii island and Maui, from noon Sunday through 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
Surf in the 5- to 8-foot range is expected Sunday afternoon, building to 8 to 12 feet by Sunday night and reaching a peak of 10 to 14 feet on Monday and Tuesday.
Officials urge caution as strong breaking waves and currents are expected during this stretch.
