Orange County deputy kills man during standoff
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. >> An Orange County sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man during a standoff near the Camp Pendleton Marine base.
Authorities say deputies had stopped a car Tuesday afternoon off of Interstate 5 when another car pulled up.
CHP Officer Chris Parent tells KABC-TV that the driver claimed he’d committed a crime and had a gun.
The deputy called for backup and officers from several agencies responded.
Authorities say a deputy shot the man after a standoff that lasted about an hour.
The man’s name and details of what prompted the shooting haven’t been released.
