HitList

Here’s a travel app that can search for inexpensive flights to your dream destinations.

» Available: Android, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch. Requires iOS7 or later.

» Cost: Free

» What it does: Tell the app where you want to go, and it will notify you when deals to those destinations pop up. You can use the app to build a wish list of destinations, invite friends to join you on trips or see where your friends have been. The significant new update also allows you to find friends via your address book and Facebook, as well as send a link to anyone to gain followers, share vacation ideas with the trip planner and more.

» What’s hot: It won me with its curated lists in the "Explore" section. Find topics such as "Spicy Food Spots," "For the Architecture Aficionado," "America Off the Grid," "Euro Rail Stops," "Best Cities for Singles," "Best Cities for Vegans" and more. Then I saw the "Weekend Getaways" section, which can search for airfare deals from your home city. It was easy to scan the list of destinations with cheap flights, use Skyscanner to view available flights, choose one and then invite friends to join you by text message, email, Twitter and more. I always look for airfare deals for weekend getaways, so this app will be helpful.

» What’s not: I had a tough time finding the app in the iTunes store, but its website, www.hitlistapp.com, has links to download in the App Store or Google Play.
