VIENNA » The influx of migrants that saw more than 14,000 people flow into Austria from Hungary over the weekend at the main border point between the two countries appears to have ebbed, at least for now.

Austrian police said Monday that 260 migrants crossed before midnight and left by train to Vienna. They say that no more had entered since, and normal traffic has resumed at the Nickelsdorf border crossing point.

Police spokesman Helmut Marban says vehicle spot checks may be resumed to search for human traffickers. But he says that for now, Austria is waiting to see whether the mass flow of migrants into the country restarts.

Austria’s government says it plans to phase out emergency measures linked to the migrants but has given no timetable.
