No. 16 Hawaii sweeps San Diego State in volleyball
Junior hitter Nikki Taylor put down 11 kills and was in on eight of team’s 14 blocks as No. 16 Hawaii swept San Diego State, 25-17, 25-11, 25-21 in Thursday’s second match of the 21st Outrigger Resorts Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine (6-1) will face No. 2 Florida (5-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Gators, making their first trip to Honolulu since 2008, survived 18 service errors to turn back Eastern Washington, 25-9, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16 in Thursday’s first match.
The Eagles (4-4) and Aztecs (1-6) meet in Friday’s 4:30 p.m. opener.
Taylor added three aces and sophomore Clare-Marie Anderson added two as Hawaii won the ace-wr 7-2. Sophomore libero Savanah Kahakai finished with 11 of the Wahine’s 34 digs.
Deja Harris led the Aztecs with seven kills.
