LITTLE ROCK, Ark. >> Police say the driver of a stolen car who was fleeing an officer struck two pedestrians in Little Rock, killing one of them.

Little Rock Police spokesman Lt. Steven McClanahan tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette the crash happened around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday. He says an officer was pursuing a Nissan Maxima that was reported stolen when the Maxima appeared to lose control and strike two women. One was killed, and the other was in critical condition.

TV station KTHV reports one person inside the car was in custody and one person was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police Chief Kenton Buckner tells the station the officer in the chase is on standard administrative leave because the department is treating the incident as a deadly force investigation.
