The city said 3,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled out of a manhole on Kalakaua Avenue Friday morning.

The spill occurred at 2500 Kalakaua Ave., and the city’s Department of Environmental Services responded after receiving a call at 7:19 a.m. Crews released a blockage of clogged grease in a 6-inch pipe at 8:34 a.m.

"Crews were able to recover 250 gallons with the remaining 2,750 gallons dissipating in a storm drain at the corner of Kealohilani and Kuhio avenues," according to a press release. "A crew confirmed that none of the spill reached receiving water."

The state Health Department was notified and the area was cleaned, disinfected and deodorized, the city said.
