Coast Guard rescues injured fisherman from Midway Atoll
A Coast Guard flight crew transported a injured Chinese fisherman from Midway Atoll to Honolulu on Saturday.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center Honolulu received a medevac request from Chinese fishing vessel Kiafuhao and, upon consultation with an on-duty flight surgeon, dispatched a HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Barber’s point around 6 a.m.
A Disaster Medical Assistance Team from Honolulu provided in-flight care to the 46-year-old patient. The nature of the injury was not disclosed.
The patient arrived in Honolulu and was transferred to the care of Emergency Medical Services around 7 p.m. The man was then transported to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
