Two women suffered smoke inhalation and minor injuries when a fire Saturday night destroyed a garage on Molokai.

Molokai firefighters were summoned to an alarm at 8:49 p.m. Saturday on Kamiloloa Place in Kaunakakai.

The fire was under control at 9:45 p.m. and extinguished at 11:33 p.m.

The occupants, a couple in their late seventies and a female friend who stopped by to visit, were in the main house.

Police officers first on scene, ran to the home to alert the homeowners. They eventually pulled the female homeowner and the female friend out through a bedroom window.

Firefighters arrived and located the remaining male occupant and brought the man out through a rear exit.

The two women were taken to Molokai General Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. The male occupant was evaluated by paramedics and released at the scene.

The fire was contained to the garage area and did not spread to the home. An aircraft fuselage and other items stored in the garage were destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates were not available.
