Man dies after being thrown from his moped in Kapolei accident

    Police closed the section of Farrington Highway between the Kapolei Golf Course and Kualakai Parkway this morning after a moped accident.

A 58-year-old Leeward Oahu man died today after he was thrown from his moped, which hit a curb on Farrington Highway near the Kapolei Golf Course.

The man was headed eastbound on Farrington Highway at 5:38 a.m. when the accident occurred. He was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he later died.

Police closed the highway near the Kapolei Golf Course  just after 6 a.m. between the Kapolei Golf Course and Kualakai Parkway. 

This was the fourth major moped accident since Sunday. 

On Monday at 1:30 p.m., a man in his 30s was taken in critical condition following an accident at 1:30 p.m. on Diamond Head Road. 

Earlier Monday at 9:30 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition after the moped she was riding collided with a bus near the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Police said the accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. at University Avenue and Maile Way. 

On Sunday, a 22-year-old man was seriously injured when the moped he was operating collided with a van on Farrington Highway in Waianae. The incident occurred about 6:20 p.m.
