A man who pulled out a weapon during an argument late Saturday in Hilo was charged with firearm offenses.

Joseph C. Fernandez, 26, of Volcano, was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threatening following an argument at the soccer fields off Kamehameha Avenue at about 11 p.m. Saturday. Hawaii island police said during the argument, Fernandez pulled a firearm from his sports utility vehicle, then fled.

The SUV was located at the intersection of Keawe Street and Mamo Street, and Fernandez was arrested and taken into custody as an investigation continued.

Fernandez was charged Monday with possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway and possessing an unregistered firearm. His bail was set at $5,500, and his initial court appearance was scheduled for today.

Detectives continue to investigate possible terroristic threatening charges.
