Police reopen eastbound H-1 freeway lanes after fatality

    Police closed off all eastbound lanes of H-1 between the Pali overpass and the Kinau offramp as they conducted an investigation after someone apparently fell from the overpass early this morning.

A person died early this morning after falling or jumping from the Pali overpass on to the eastbound lanes of the H-1 freeway, causing a major traffic nightmare for rush-hour commuters.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m.

Honolulu police closed all eastbound lanes of the freeway just before 5 a.m. from the Pali overpass to the Kinau offramp to conduct their investigation. The freeway was reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

The age and gender of the victim were not immediately released.

To help ease the traffic congestion, police opened both the Zipper and HOV lanes on the eastbound lanes of the H-1 freeway to all motorists just after 7 a.m.
