Man nearly drowns in river on Big Isle
A man swimming in the Wailuku River was taken to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after bystanders were able to pull him from the water.
Hawaii County firefighters were called to the scene at 3:34 p.m. to find bystanders performing CPR on the 18-year-old man, who had been submerged at least 3 minutes before he was pulled from the water.
Fire personnel transported the victim to Hilo Hospital in critical condition.
