The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports 24-year-old Fidel Lopez pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of first-degree murder and sexual battery.

SUNRISE, Fla. » A Florida man who admitted to police that he killed his girlfriend because she called out her estranged husband’s name during sex has pleaded not guilty.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports 24-year-old Fidel Lopez pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of first-degree murder and sexual battery.

Sunrise police say Lopez called 911 last month, saying his girlfriend was having trouble breathing.

Officers responding to the apartment said they found Lopez crying in the bathroom next to 31-year-old Maria Nemeth’s body.

Police say Lopez initially told investigators that the couple had been having sex when Nemeth went into the bathroom, vomited and collapsed.

After further questioning, Lopez revealed that he became enraged with Nemeth when she called out her estranged husband’s name and that he attacked and disemboweled her.
