Coast Guard personnel evacuated a injured 43-year-old man from a Norwegian gas tanker about 100 miles away from Oahu on Friday.

The crew member had suffered a serious eye injury and a Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a medical evacuation.

The tanker, which was traveling from Panama to Korea, redirected its course toward Hawai’i and was met by a MH-65 Dolphin heliopter crew, which brought the man on board around 3:30 p.m.

The man was transferred to paramedics at Air Station Barbers Point and transported in stable condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.
