The H-3 freeway in the Honolulu-bound direction will be closed Wednesday night for emergency repair work, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The closure will be between the Likelike Highway underpass and the Halawa Interchange from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.

At this time, the right Honolulu-bound lane on the H-3 is closed on the Halawa side about two miles after the Harano Tunnel for repairs, the department said.

A steel expansion join that connects the two segments of the road is damaged and the entire roadway must be closed to prevent vibration while the crews are welding it back, officials said.
