High surf, gusty winds prompt weather advisories
High surf and wind advisories are posted for the Hawaiian islands as a series of northwest swells move through the islands and gusty winds continue.
Forecasters expect surf of 12 to 15 feet along north shores of Oahu, Maui, Hawaii island, Molokai, Kauai and the west-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai, Kauai and Niihau, where 8- to 12-foot surf is expected.
The advisory is in effect until 7 p.m.
A new swell is expected to arrive Tuesday that will likely prompt another surf advisory.
Beachgoers are advised that the large breaking surf, shorebreak and strong currents could make entering the water hazardous.
