Portion of Waipahu Street reopened after crews repair damaged pole

A car knocked down a telephone pole on Waipahu Street near Paiwa Street today, prompting police to close Waipahu Street as Hawaiian Telcom crews replaced the pole.

The accident happened at about 11 p.m. Friday. Waipahu Street was closed from Mahoe to Paiwa streets.

Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman Su Shin said in an email that the crash severed a couple of cables, but no telephone or internet outages were reported.

Crews finished the repair work at about 4:15 p.m. today.

    High winds bolw down a utility pole? This is the kind of news that we read about in a third world country. Not here in Hawaii.
