Permits needed for improvements to Honaunau Rodeo Arena
KAILUA-KONA >> The Honaunau Rodeo Arena is getting expanded seating and a 2,260-square-foot community pavilion before the end of 2016.
West Hawaii Today reports Hawaii County released an assessment that says construction will not have a significant environmental impact, and that there is a clear need for the venue in an area with few County recreational facilities.
Permits are still needed before construction can start.
Improvements expected to cost between $3 million and $5 million include seating for 500 people, an 800-square-foot comfort station to replace the old facility, as well as expanded parking.
The pavilion will have a concession stand that the public can use as well.
The Kona Roping Club holds one annual event at the rodeo that brings in about 700 people.
