Woman’s condition after being struck by bus in Chinatown downgraded to critical
A 77-year-old woman was critically injured Monday morning when she was hit by a city bus in Nuuanu, police said.
The pedestrian was initially taken by paramedics to The Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition, but her condition was later downgraded to critical.
The woman was crossing Nuuanu Avenue at North Kukui Street near Chinatown about 8:05 a.m. Monday when the bus struck her. She was in a marked crosswalk but appeared to be crossing against a red light, police said.
Police closed the middle and right mauka-bound lanes on Nuuanu Avenue near Kukui Street while the accident was investigated.

This is all too common out here. Just too much speeding and reckless driving out there.
Sorry. Can’t speed in a gridlock formation, allie.
You have never been to Chinatown?
I eat among the vermin in that area every morning. All the city buses pass through Chinatown.
I was actually commenting on allie’s perpetual hyperbole about the speeders “out there.”
Was she in a crosswalk or not SA. Bus hits her while in crosswalk, bus’s fault. Bus hit her while she trying to sneak across the street, her fault.
Mayor pardons all crimes.
This is an extremely dangerous intersection and the North-bound bus stop has multiple visibility issues. It’s almost impossible NOT to be in the CROSSWALKS as they are wide and visible. But, vehicle drivers have to pull beyond the Crosswalks to see Left and/or Right. Need a traffic light and/or a Crosswalk signal. I’ll be every Ambulance Chasing Attorney in Downtown HNL is chomping-at-the-bit to glean this case… Pray the Woman is O.K…
“bet” (Redacted)
I see them immigrant ladies going against the rules of crossing everyday. Well, even the monkey falls out of the tree.
And them Chinese speaking act dumb, like they don’t speak English, when tagged for jaywalking. Hey. The police are here to protect us. And following the rules of crossing the road apply here.
Starting off the New Year like last year. Wonder what the pedestrian toll will be this year.
Honolulu will again win award for being the most dangerous city for pedestrians and the elderly.
There is no excuse for this driver, going straight in broad daylight and running over a pedestrian regardless of the traffic light. Was he/she texting or tLking on the cell phone ? How about a follow up to tell us what happens to this inattentive driver?
