Remains found in Wailuku River identified as missing Kona woman

The remains found in Wailuku River last month have been identified as those of Jolee Reiswig, a swim instructor and small businesswoman who was washed away by the river six months ago, Hawaii County police said today.

Her remains were found in a tide pool along the river on Feb. 14. Dental comparisons determined the remains were Reiswig’s, police said.

Reiswig, 62, of Kona, brought a guest of her bed-and-breakfast to a pond near an area along the river called Boiling Pots on Sept. 14, according to her best friend.

Reiswig and the man were crossing the river on inflatable tubes when the two got caught in the current and Reiswig fell off her tube and got swept downstream in the rapids, firefighters said.

The river was swollen with a strong current at the time. Firefighters searched for at least six days, but only found Reiswig’s swim tube and noodle.
